Kolkata, June 2 (IANS) Calling for immediate assembly elections in West Bengal, Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee Wednesday said the Left Front had lost its right to govern the state after being dealt a big blow by her party in the civic polls.

‘We congratulate the people of Bengal. It is the victory of Bengal’s Maa, Mati, Manush (mother, land and people) The state government has lost all right to be in power and assembly elections should be held immediately in West Bengal,’ Banerjee told mediapersons here on her arrival from Delhi.

The West Bengal assembly polls are due next year.

The Trinamool swept the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) by decimating the Left Front – which has run the board since 2005 – and also came up with an impressive showing in the municipalities of various districts.

Banerjee said the Trinamool will control more than 50 civic bodies, out of the 81 that went to polls Sunday.

As the results poured in, Trinamool candidates celebrated wildly all over Kolkata. The outcome is considered a huge blow to the Left, which had been in control of 54 of the 81 civic bodies, including KMC.

Before leaving for Kolkata, Banerjee, who is also railway minister, had said in New Delhi: ‘I have full faith in people. It’s too early to come to any conclusion.’

More than 70 percent of voters had exercised their franchise in the polls. The elections were held two days after the Gyaneshwari Express rail disaster claimed 148 lives in West Midnapore district.

The Trinamool Congress and the Congress had failed to clinch a seat-sharing deal.

Rizwanur’s brother rejected by voters

Kolkata, June 2 (IANS) Even as the Trinamool Congress swept the Kolkata municipal polls, one of its star candidates, Rukbanur Rahman – brother of Rizwanur whose mysterious death shocked the city – was defeated.

Javed Khan, a Trinamool legislator and one of the party’s mayoral candidates, also lost to a lesser known candidate.

Rukbanur, in the forefront of the campaign to bring to justice those responsible for the 30-year-old computer graphics teacher’s death, lost to Revolutionary Socialist Party’s Sushil Kumar Sharma.

Rukbanur also faced opposition from one of his uncles, Akilur Rahman, who contested as an independent.

Rukbanur’s constituency covered south Kolkata areas like Park Circus, Tiljala and neighbouring areas in south Kolkata which had been in flames after Rizwanur’s body was found Sep 21, 2007 along the railway tracks.

Rizwanur had married Priyanka, daughter of businessman Ashok Todi. His death sparked sparked outrage following allegations that his father-in-law had influenced police officers to force him to opt out of the marriage.

Several police officers, including then police commissioner Prasun Mukherjee, were later removed from their posts for their alleged role in Rizwanur’s death.

Todi, two of his relatives and four senior city police officers were among those later chargesheeted for allegedly abetting Rizwanur’s suicide.

The Calcutta High Court last month asked the Central Bureau of Investigation to register a murder case and conduct a fresh probe into the death.

Success seems to be written large on this very versatile and talented actor, right from the day NTR has started his road shows he has been making grand speeches and they are being lapped up by the general public with a never before fervor. The actor is rocking to an extent that even YSR and Chiru are revaluating their poll plans, many analysts say that if NTR goes the way he has been going then he would make the voters swing in TDP’s way ultimately leading to the TDPs win.

Comparisons between the young scion and Balakrishna have also started and many say that he is a bigger pull than Balakrishna for the TDP, many say that Chiru also is fading off in comparison to the young NTR.

All said and done NTR is emerging as a winner for TDP and a threat for the Congress and the PRP. Indeed a star in many ways is NTR!!

YSR In Trouble

Despite his best efforts to keep himself above waters and come through as a clean Chief Minister, YSR is finding himself in deep shit, what with a lower court ordering the Director General of the Anti Corruption Bureau to investigate into the Yellampalli Scam case and send a report by the 26th of March.

YSR along with a few others has been implicated in the scam to the tune of 391cr by enhancing tender values, and making money out of such activity.

The allegations regarding the Yallampalli project are not politically motivated; they have been made by a common citizen who has been concerned about the huge levels of corruption in the state.

The fact that this is not a politically motivated move should more than amply prove the state of affairs of the state, let us see how YSR tackles this, but one could easily say that the past has now started to haunt YSR , apparently there is more to come.

Street Fights Between Roja And Shoba Rani

March 2nd, 2009 by vivek

How much worst can it get? In a recent spat between TDP’s Roja and PRP’s Shoba Rani each have accused the other of the worst personal traits and have gone to the extent of calling each other bitches and giving sexual favors to gain political and filmy advantages.

Roja in the heat of the moment has also not spared Chiranjeevi and Pawan kalyan whom she accused of taking sexual favors from many women, she also draw Pawan Kalyan’s wife into the controversy and also sling mud on her personal character. Shoba Rani on her part accused Roja of openly displaying her wares and dancing on roads.

What a disgrace all this for women, it is really sad to note the pathetic state of affairs of the politics in the state and particularly the women politicians who are even willing to sell off their dignity in the hope of getting political mileage.
