This seems to be a scene straight out of a Bollywood film. Smita Thackeray, the 48-year-old daughter-in-law of Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray, seems to have suddenly settled on the national party as her political ideal and will shortly jump aboard its bandwagon. Other than being an active social worker, Smita Thackeray has been a film producer and has financed projects like Haseena Maan Jayegi, Sandwich, Kaisay Kahein and TV serials like Hum Jo Keh Na Paaye.

“I have become a big admirer of Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi and want to be part of the good work being done by them for the country,” says Smita.

Along with her single status came other problems —her name started getting linked to the men she interacted with. The most publicised “Smita Thackeray affair” was with singer Sonu Nigam. One day you heard she had run away with him, the next you heard she married him.
