Voice of India Last Year Winner Ishmeet Singh Died
‘Voice of India’ singing contest winner Ishmeet Singh Tuesday died under mysterious circumstances by “drowning” in a swimming pool in Male, the capital of the Maldives.
The 19-year-old singer hailing from a middle-class of this industrial city of Punjab had gone to Maldives for a promotional event with the music company with which he had a contract.
Relatives at his residence here said the family was informed telephonically by the music company officials that Ishmeet died while swimming in a hotel pool in the Maldives.
Relatives, friends and admirers of the singer made a beeline to his house even as his shocked parents tried to come to terms with the untimely tragedy. A pall of gloom descended on the locality.
The singer left here Tuesday morning for Maldives from Mumbai.
Ishmeet had Nov 26 last year won the ‘Voice of India’ singing contest, pipping his closest rival Harshit from Uttar Pradesh in a keen contest. He was given the winner’s trophy by melody queen Lata Mangeshkar.
Supporters of the singer voted heavily for him from Punjab during the finals of the contest. Even though Harshit led the votes tally in most regions of the country, the final count went in Ishmeet’s favour due to heavy voting from Punjab.
“He was like a brother to me. I cannot even comment on what has happened. I cannot believe that he is no longer with us,” fellow contestant Harshit told a TV news channel.

Ishmeet Singh was the Pride of India. His simplicity and innocense made him standout among the other contestants of VOI. May his soul rest in peace. I would request everyone to pray for his family and friends. May god bless them with strength to overcome this tragidy.. All ive got to say is that death is extremelyyyy unpredictable. Ishmeet would not have dreamt in his wildest dreams that he would never return home after his departure from India on Tuesday. An extremely tragic end to such a great legend.

Its pathetic to know about this gem’s drowning…he made Ludhiana and whole sikh community proud…mostly when people fom sikh community enter glamour world they leave their Rehat-Marayada as shown by Guru Gobind Singh ji behind….but this lad never did that and that was the real proud to the community…I can’t believe that its a simple case of drowning….there must be some conspiracy attached to it…my My Lord bring that to limelight n rest Ishmeet’s soul in his Divine Light…
Wahe Guru Ji Ka Khalsha,
Wahe Guru Ji Ki Fateh.

I am a Dubai based Pakistani. I was really shocked when I heard the headlines of his death on BBC, that was unbelievable for me that VOI is no more. Well I think that Indian Government should take strict action against Maldive Government. They have to answer about this mishape. I just pray to Allah that he blessed his soul and gave patience to his family and friends.

I can not sleep since I have heard about Ishmeet. I am not music lover but I loved his innocence. I was feeling proud being him a singer because i am from punjab too living in Usa now. If we have never met with him and feeling sad and cannot sleep and missing Ishmmet. I am just thinking what will be going on with his family and relatives. Why God call nice people to them so early. He struggled so much to become a singer. when struggle was over, he is gone to God. Sometime I think God does not have heart too. Why God made him a singer if God had to call him back. God had hearted every Indian. Anyway, still wish to God that He born in same family and become singer.

Timely and nice to remember Ishmeet Singh but more is required to be done in case of Ishmeet Singh’ death - Where were Ishmeet’s friends at the funeral?’ Was the absence of friends and colleagues only to avoid the exposure of as to what extent the destructive jealousy factor obviously running against Ishmeet Singh for causing his death? Where were Ishmeet’s friends at the funeral?’ The destructive jealousy factor might be one of the reasons of the planned and created circumstances leading to the death of Ishmeet Singh can not be ruled out so lightly. We should not forget that an innocent child could be used in such planned and created circumstances, knowing very well that so and so would surely behave in the fashion under the circumstances which are always meant for his death and so on under the different similar cases of conspiracy. Moreover, the colleagues of Ishmeet in the interview on the day were looking suspicious and tutored judging by their body language, face culture and they only said in the interview whatever they might be tutored to say legally. Mika rightly said, “Only Abhijeet dada and Hans Raj Hans were present at the funeral. Where were Ishmeet’s friends and colleagues from various shows? Was the absence of friends and colleagues only to avoid the exposure of as to what extent the destructive jealousy factor obviously running against Ishmeet Singh for causing his death used for interview in the manner as a cover up or only their absence for the security reasons would be the pet reply suiting under the circumstances? Mika’s query is not without substance as he understands fully the dangerous aspect of destructive jealousy factor in music industry as well. The independent high level inquiry would be the only answer to set all speculations in right perspective at least in order to take preventive measures for the safety of the future blossoming stars of any field like him. First reaction: Ishmeet’s untimely death is very shocking and sad news for all noble hearts. “I have some big projects lined up. And I am happy that God has put me on right path. Soon I will take a big leap and go high.” Said Ishmeet Singh talking to TOI at Chandigarh never knew that what is big leap and high in store for him? Here we are helpless and have to surrender to HIS wishes as who can chant (God’s) knowledge whose study is arduous. The demand of an inquiry into the drowning accident as to know what were the circumstances leading to his death took place so suddenly and carelessly is genuine at least in order to take preventive measures for the future blossoming stars of any field like him. Such an inquiry is a need of hour along with praying that God bless his soul. A few words expressed for the gem on his very sorrowful untimely death especially for the consolation of his parents and other family members by Balbir Singh Sooch, his family and friends. Jul 30, 2008 9:46 AM –Latest reaction-Could the destructive jealousy factor the only one of the reasons of the planned and created circumstances leading to the death of Ishmeet Singh or because “Ishmeet remained committed to his faith and he stuck to Sikh practices, even in the demanding world of the film industry, Ishmeet brought unmatched honour to the entire Sikh community, the state and the country?” As already said, “We should not forget that even an innocent child could be used in such planned and created circumstances, knowing very well that so and so would surely behave in the fashion under the circumstances which are always meant for his death and so on under the different similar cases of conspiracy”. Mika’s query is not without substance as he understands fully the dangerous aspect of destructive jealousy factor in music industry as well.
