There’s something about Salman Khan. Even as he keeps getting on to the wrong side of the law, people from within the industry seem to swear by him. And why not? This Khan is known to be quite a large-hearted man helping out people in distress.
PJ Singh is one such cash-stripped producer who found solace in Salman Khan. Singh recently went bust thanks to his ambitious film – London Dreams. The venture, which has been shelved for quite some time now, cost Singh about Rs 10 cr.
Not left with much of a choice, Singh approached Salman and begged him to help him. It seems the producer had to sell off two of his bungalows to repay the money he had invested.
Some scenes for London Dreams had been canned at Golden Temple in Amritsar. However things went out of hand and the project simply did not take off after that.
Story goes that Singh had paid huge amounts to Rajkumar Santoshi who was directing the film (3.5 cr), and the stars – Ajay Devgan (1.5 crore), Priety Zinta (1 crore), Priyanka Chopra (1.5 crore) along with Salman (2 crores) – who were acting in it.
However when Eros showed interest in buying the film from him at Rs 40 cr, Santoshi decided to hike his fees to Rs 8 cr.
And since Singh could not afford that kind of money at the time, the film was put on the backburner.
While neither Singh nor Santoshi were available for comments, sources suggest that Salman had indeed intervened to help out the producer.
Apparently the Khan was so moved after seeing Singh in tears and hearing his tale of woe that he called up Santoshi. So now the film will go on the floors in mid-2008.
London Dreams is about a rock band in England. Salman Khan and Ajay Devgan, play childhood friends and rock musicians. 80 per cent of the film will be shot in London.
